What is this film about?
Beautiful Souls first began as a documentary about the ADHD and Autism crisis. Becca Rich set out to question mainstream approaches to children’s health and education after seeing her own son recover through holistic healing and homeschooling. But while developing that project, her personal life was torn apart.
After years of court battles, coercive control, and parental alienation, she lost contact with her two sons. In that heartbreak, she discovered she was not alone. Thousands of mothers across the world were experiencing the same silencing — safe, loving mums erased from their children’s lives through family courts with them giving the children to their abusive fathers.
As the ADHD and Autism film continues as the public-facing project, another strand of Beautiful Souls is unfolding quietly alongside it. This more private film documents the hidden crisis of post-separation abuse, parental and judicial alienation. It follows Becca and three other mothers through grief, resilience, and healing, revealing not only the devastating impact of family court systems but also the extraordinary strength of mothers who refuse to give up on their children.
At its heart, Beautiful Souls is not just about injustice – it is about love. A love that persists through silence, trauma, and loss. A love powerful enough to break cycles and bring their children back home.
